Structural Engineering and Construction Management is that part of engineering that covers the planning, design detail, and management of all initiatives that have influence on the lives of human beings, such as water tanks, roads, bridges, irrigation structures, residential buildings, etc. It is responsible for the successful design and construction of various types of buildings all over the world such as the Giza Pyramids, Burj Khalifa, and Sydney Opera House..etc.
The graduating engineers are most commonly involved in the design of buildings and large non-building structures, but they can also be involved in the design of machinery, medical equipment, vehicles or other structures to ensure their structural integrity. Structural engineering theory is based upon physical laws and an empirical knowledge of the structural performance in different types of landscapes with different materials. Designs can use a relatively small number of basic structural elements to build up structural systems that can be very complex.
This program combines structural engineering with advanced construction management to educate students and enable them to apply their earned skills and solve problems of the modern engineering and construction world. The department prepares students with a solid foundation in design and management so they can serve multiple disciplines. Through a combination of technical and non-technical courses, the students are able to work in groups, lead groups, and create implementation plans. The graduates are able to work on construction projects as designers, site engineers, and planners. They can work on building construction, heavy civil work, or infrastructure projects.
