The Architectural Engineering Department – Faculty of Engineering and Technology is among the qualified research team for a 3 years research project funded by the Erasmus plus Program

The Architectural Engineering Department – Faculty of Engineering and Technology is among the qualified research team for a 3 years research project funded by the Erasmus plus Program The staff of the Architectural Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology is delighted to announce that the research proposal, which they were involved in developing and later submitted, to the Erasmus plus Program has been accepted.

The project entitled Urban and Transportation Regeneration for Reducing Automobile Dependency in MENA (Upgrade). The project falls under the Capacity Building in higher education - Joint Projects.

The staff is delighted for this upcoming international academic cooperation, over a period of 3 years, with the rest of the project teams. The lead partner of the Project is Technische Universität Berlin (TUBerlin) – Germany, with partner universities from Italy, Spain, Greece, Lebanon and Egypt.

Out of the 1005 research proposals submitted to the Erasmus Plus program in 2020, only 164 proposals were accepted including the project within hand, that qualified among the top 13% known as the 1st category.

The project’s wider objective is to employ multidisciplinary education and research to help transportation businesses address the challenges of unprivileged sectors of society using innovative solutions. UPGRADE focuses on unprivileged minorities that evolved lately in both the EU and the MENA region (i.e. the refugees) as a case study to solve not only their transportation and Urban mobility planning everyday problems, but also to try upgrade their economic status, through studying the land use of the accommodated settlements to help them look for income-generating opportunities and a better quality of life.
